Original Proposal 8/18/08: "Localization planning, development and implementation. Implemented online."

At the beginning of this project the cms was loaded with some sample content in a different language. This alternate language content was Lorem Ipsum sample text, and logged-in users whose profile indicated a preference for latin over english will see the latin content whereever it exists. Since it was just for testing, this latin content was very minimal, consisting of only a few substituted paragraphs (3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 14) in unit 10. Computer Specifications (Hardware Overview). These can be seen by following the link above (which also carries the Latin test user's loginid).

Note: the first 25 characters or so of these dummy paragraphs remain in english in order to establish that they are in fact the correct paragraphs.

Assigment 4 for this semester is to trigger the same substitution from a non-logged-in user's browser's language setting. To test this, the user must demote their brower's preferred language (presumably US English and/or English), below Latin and Lithuanian (casual testing revealed that not all browser/computers have "Latin" as an option, so the code will accomodate either version).

Preferred Language Selection Detail

  1. Observe and note your language selection(s), so you can set them back later.
  2. Observe you are not logged in (no loginid appears as a url variable).
  3. Change the browser's top language selection to latin (la) or lithuanian (li).
  4. Observe Latin content in paragraphs 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 13, and 14 on 10. Computer Specifications (Hardware Overview).
  5. Restore the English language preferences of your browser.
