- Assignment 1: HASTAC/MacArthur Grant Application
The HASTAC grant opportunity came up just as the independent study was getting started. I felt like there wasn't quite enough work in the initial 3 assignments for the 3-credit project, so it got added to make the independent study in part to make it more challenging. Peripheral goals included wanting to get some grant application experience (for my own projects), as well as rethinking the project and presenting it competitively.
Needless to say, the grant proposal grew into a very big part of the work, and in some ways came to overshadow much of the independent study. On the whole the experience was positive. It certainly did make me think a lot about the project and consider who the audience(s) were/are and forced me to confront a lot of hard questions.
